The Tunable NRZ-DPSK (Differential Phase Shift Keying) optical module from Finisar represents a cutting edge long-reach 40Gb/s transponder, which utilizes the latest advancements in optical technology and offers excellent OSNR performance for 40Gb/s transport systems.

The transponder supports NRZ-DPSK modulation for long-reach optical networking applications with wavelength tuning across either the Extended C or L bands at 50GHz spacing, with optical demodulator (DLI) options optimized for either 50GHz or 100GHz spaced DWDM networks. The
module is also OIF SFI-5.1 compliant and supports a wide variety of protocols including OC-768/STM-256, OTU-3 and OTU3e 44.6 Gb/s rates.

Rx. active tuning optimizes both decision point and DLI phase tuning either when manually controlled or when auto-tuned using a BER feedback mechanism hardware fed to the transponder from the OTN framer/FEC decoder, optimizing performance and minimizing BER.

An I2C interface is used to control and monitor the transponder according to the I2C MSA standard.

Designed to work with +3.3V, +5V and –5.2V power supplies, without need for any specific supply voltage turn-on sequencing, over a case temperature range of -5°C to +70°C, this transponder provides complete functionality, compatibility and ease of use for 40Gb/s DWDM designs.
